- Retail Insurance / Insurance for Shops & Shopkeepers Quotedesk
provide a Shopkeepers & Retailors insurance policy designed
for an extensive range of shops and retail premises. We offer comprehensive cover
with competitive premiums.
The
UK Retail Industry accounts for approximately 8% of UK Gross Domestic Product.
Retail sales for 2008 were approximately £287 Billion which is forecast to rise
to £312billion over the next 5 years (UK Retail Futures 2011: Sector Summary,
Datamonitor). The retail industry as a whole is one of the UK’s largest business
sectors employing over 2.8 million in 2008 which equates to 11% of the UK work
force. However, employment in retailing is estimated to have fallen by over 70,000
in the last 5 years. In 2008 there were approximately 293,000 retail outlets in
the UK. Little wonder the British were considered a nation of shopkeepers. In
the United States 24 million are employed in the retail sector distributed through
1.4 m retail establishments and shops. The future is both challenging and exciting.
While e commerce still accounts for about 5% of total transactions this is forecast
to rise along an increasingly upward trend. Many industry commentators forecast
a spending slow down due to the influences of rising job insecurity, increasing
interest rates, massive existing consumer debt, direct and indirect tax rises,
static or falling house prices and decreasing customer optimism in the short term.
Retailers and shopkeepers will need to maximise their cost savings in various
areas to enable them to compete. One
fixed cost which can easily be addressed is the cost of insurance cover to the
business. Quotedesk offer a Shopkeepers and Retailers insurance policy which will
help drive down costs in this crucial area without sacrificing levels of cover.
The UK Retail Industry is composed of a variety of sectors of which Shopkeepers
form a large part. Along with traditional retail shops there is an increasing
trend towards other forms of retail. E Commerce or online retailing is very significant.
There are also retail mediums known as Non Store Retailing which include Mail
Order, Paper and electronic catalogues or Delivery Commerce, Television Shopping
Channels, Automatic Merchandising or Vending Machines, Direct Retailing such as
door to door sales and house party sales, Portable stalls or Market stalls. More

Home Insurance / Insurance for park homes Quotedesk
provide a park home insurance policy designed for all types
of Park home. We offer comprehensive cover with competitive premiums.
Park homes are
prefabricated homes built in factories, rather than on site, and then taken to
the place where they will be occupied. They are usually transported by trailer
over public roads to park home sites which are often in rural areas or high-density
developments. While these homes are usually placed in one location and left there
permanently, they do retain the ability to be moved as this is a requirement in
many areas. Behind the cosmetic work fitted at installation to hide the base,
there are strong frames The generic term “Park Home” refers to a mobile home which
is used for residential purposes. A
Park Home is a prefabricated unit which means it is manufactured off site and
then delivered by the manufacturer and sited in its final position on site. Usually,
a Park Home is situated on a Park Site rather than on private land as a stand
alone dwelling. There are hundreds of recognised Park Home sites in the UK. Information
on the majority of these sites is contained in industry specific publications
such as the “Residential Home Parks” Directory published by the “British Holiday
& Home Parks Association” (BH&HPA). A residential Park Home site is legally obliged
to have a current recognised site licence as required under the “Caravan Sites
and Control of Development Act” 1960. A great deal of useful legal information
regarding Park Homes and Park Home Sites can be viewed by visiting the Department
of Communities and Government web site. More

home insurance / Insurance for static homes Quotedesk
provide a Static home insurance policy designed to cover
all types of static caravan in The UK & overseas. We offer comprehensive insurance
cover and competitive premiums for your Static home
The
Static home or static caravan industry contributes a significant amount to the
UK leisure industry. Figures collated by national agencies indicate that 20% of
all recorded leisure breaks in the UK in 2008 were accounted for by the Parks
industry. This compares with 28% of recorded leisure breaks in the Hotel and Guesthouse
sector. Of that 20% figure 16 million bed nights can be attributed to Static Home
holiday lets and 16.6 million bed nights to Static Home owner stays. Similarly,
3.2 million trips were taken by holidaymakers to Static Homes in the UK and 3.7
million trips were taken by Static Home owners (United Kingdom Tourist Statistics
2008). Within
the UK there are approximately 4000 individual static and touring caravan parks.
Information on the majority of these sites is contained in industry specific publications
such as the "Holiday Parks Guide” published by the "British Holiday & Home Parks
Association" (BH&HPA) who are Britain’s largest independent park organisation.
They also produce a guide on award winning “eco-friendly” parks in the UK in line
with the current trends towards sustainability. Retail prices for a brand new
Static Home or Static Caravan start from about £13,000.00 for a starter model
to over £50,000.00 for a more luxurious model with an average mid range Static
Home retailing at £25,000.00. While
many modern units are built to BS3632 standards this is not a requirement and
many Static models confirm to the lesser BS EN 1647 standards. BS3622 sets down
detailed requirements regarding stability and structural integrity, weather resistance,
adequate ventilation, drainage and sanitation, adequate means of escape, satisfactory
thermal & sound insulation, the safe installation of electrical services and gas
/ oil fired installations and windows and doors. BSEN1647 is less rigorous with
units built to this lesser standard not designed to be inhabited over the colder
winter months. More

& Café insurance / Insurance for Restaurants & Cafés Quotedesk
provide a Restaurant and Café insurance policy designed
for all types of food establishment. We offer comprehensive cover with competitive
premiums.
Inns
and restaurants dedicated to the serving of foods or victuals began to emerge
in the UK in the 1700’s at the onset of the Industrial revolution. These early
restaurants developed from the long history of Inns and Taverns but were distinguished
by their emphasis on providing meals and refreshment rather than accommodation.
Restaurants
or inn type accommodation has been developing since Greek times. A notable mention
can be found in the biblical account of the Nativity story. However, it was in
Roman Britain that a familiar pattern of inns and lodgings, the early forerunner
of the restaurants and food establishments we recognise today, began to develop.
These early Inns opened alongside newly built Roman roads and within the main
towns. Their purpose was to provide accommodation and lodgings for Roman officials
on state visits. Their main function was accommodation rather than food. However,
after the decline of the Roman Empire and the onset of the Dark Ages the need
for Inn or Restaurant type accommodation declined. Travel was restricted mainly
to the small minority embarking on religious pilgrimages. Nevertheless,
Hotel and Board and Lodgings style accommodation did continue to develop alongside
the growth of the Abbeys. These provided basic accommodation alongside the main
roads, in towns or close to the Abbeys. Continuing the religious theme, many private
Inns, the forerunner of today’s restaurants and hotels, developed along pilgrimage
routes. England’s oldest Inn is “The Trip to Jerusalem” in Nottingham. It dates
from 1189 and is so called as it served as the meeting place for Crusaders prior
to their long journey to Jerusalem with Richard the First (Lionheart). Other early
private Inns include the George (1395) at Norton St Philip in Somerset, the Spread
Eagle (1430) at Midhurst in Sussex and the Mermaid (early 1500’s) at Rye.

Pub and Club insurance / Insurance for Bars, Pubs and Clubs Quotedesk
provide a Pub, Bar and Club insurance policy designed to
cover all types of licensed premises. We offer comprehensive cover with competitive
premiums.
Within
the UK drinks industry there are presently around 53,000 public houses and bars.
The overall figure is declining at a rate of about 36 bars and pubs a week due
to various economic and social factors. However, the drinks industry has adapted
to challenging forces throughout its long history and will undoubtedly rise to
the challenge again. The
UK alcohol industry accounts for the livelihoods of over 600,000 people and is
estimated to generate a total annual turnover of £28B. It is a leading export
industry as well as an important domestic industry. Up to 90% of the beer consumed
in the UK is produced by the domestic market rather than imported. Each week 15m
of the UK population still visit a Pub, Bar or other establishment serving alcohol.
Of the 53,000 pubs in the UK 80% now serve food along with traditional bar snacks.
This equates to 1.1B pub meals sold each year. The
increasing influence of food is an indication of how the public house industry
is evolving to reflect changing customer needs and expectations. The main function
of Public Houses and Bars is the sale and supervised consumption of alcoholic
beverages. They market a wide range of traditional beers, keg beers, real ale
and cask ales, lagers, ciders, stouts, wines, fortified wines, spirits, alcopops,
soft drinks, coffee and tea. More

insurance / Insurance for Buy to lets - Landlords Quotedesk
provide a property owners insurance policy for residential
landlords. We provide a comprehensive range of cover with competitive premiums.

The
Landlords let property market in the UK has enjoyed tremendous growth over the
last 20 years. It has been fuelled by various factors: low interest rates; the
availability of specific landlords or buy to let mortgages on the high street;
high rental yields compared to traditional forms of savings and investments offered
by the banks or via the Stock Market; and low pension and annuity returns. These
factors have helped fuel a phenomenal growth in property prices in the UK since
the early nineties. Against this background, buy to let and second home ownership
has become a sought after and fashionable investment opportunity. There
are a large number of organisations which can assist the Landlord in managing
their individual property or their portfolio of properties. Helpful and practical
advice can be sourced via the internet from the
Residential Landlords Association rla.org.uk
and residential
landlord.co.uk . The main professional body which represents letting
agents is the Association of Residential Letting Agents ARLA www.arla.co.uk.
On the ARLA website you can view a great deal of very useful information aimed
at Landlords and Tenants. There is also an informative section on the Buy to Let
property market. There
has been a huge opportunity in the second home market to generate additional income
or to operate a successful business . Second Homes or Buy to let properties are
made up of a diverse range of property: Cottages, traditional and modern Houses
and Bungalows, Flats, Static Homes or Static Caravans on holiday home sites, Log
Cabins, Chalets, Lodges, Park Homes, Listed Buildings and unusual properties such
as converted Windmills, Lighthouses or Castles. Quote Desk offers specific insurance
policies for most properties and one of our great strengths lies in our strong
relationship with Lloyds of London, the most established insurance market place
in the world. This means we can be flexible and consider non standard types of
construction. More

Guest House and B&B insurance / Guest house, B&B & Hotel insurance. Quotedesk
provides a Hotel, Guest House and Bed & Breakfast insurance
policy designed for an extensive range of hospitality providers. We offer Comprehensive
cover and competitive premiums for your Hotel insurance.
The
Hotel industry in the UK and overseas has undergone many changes and developments
during its long history. While we may assume that hotel or inn type accommodation
has been developing since Greek times and figures prominently in the Bible during
the Nativity Story it was in Roman Britain that a familiar pattern of inns and
lodgings, the early forerunner of the Hotels we recognise today developed. These
opened alongside the newly built Roman roads and within the main towns to service
Roman officials on state visits – the beginning of business travel and tourism
no less. However, after the decline of the Roman Empire and the onset of the Dark
Ages the need for hotel or inn type accommodation declined. Travel was restricted
mainly to those embarking on religious pilgrimages. Hotel
style accommodation developed hand in hand with the development of the Abbeys
which provided spartan accommodation along the main roads, in towns or close to
Abbeys. Many private Inns, the forerunner of today’s hotels, developed along pilgrimage
routes. England’s oldest Inn is called “The Trip to Jerusalem” in Nottingham.
It dates from 1189 and is so called as it served as the meeting place for Crusaders
prior to their long journey to Jerusalem with Richard the First (Lionheart). Other
early private Inns include the George (1395) at Norton St Philip in Somerset,
the Spread Eagle (1430) at Midhurst in Sussex and the Mermaid (early 1500’s) at
Rye. The next major stage of Hotel development took place during the 16C & 17C
with the development of the Coaching Inn or Hotel which grew in size alongside
the development of commerce. The coaching Inns served as a resting place for the
embryonic postal service and the stagecoach system much as today’s coaching Hotels
do. However,
the Hotel industry as we recognise it today look a giant leap forward during the
Napoleonic Wars in the 19C. Hotel accommodation was developed by private entrepreneurs
providing accommodation for Officers on leave. Coupled with this was the rapid
growth of the Industrial Revolution in the UK and the development of the railway
system which brought travel within reach of the general population and also facilitated
business travel. The great Railway Hotels developed during this period such as
St Pancreas Hotel, Victoria Station Hotel, Charing Cross Hotel and the Great Eastern
Hotel. This railway network also propelled the early growth of the leisure and
tourism industry with Hotel accommodation developing in the Spa towns which travellers
would visit for health reasons. Hotels now began their relentless aspirational
march providing goods and services at different levels for different segments
of the population. Class had entered the hospitality industry. In
1837 there were 396 recorded Inns, Hotels and Taverns in London alone and 34 private
guest houses. Not many by today’s standards. But during this period we start to
see the appearance of many famous Hotel names which we still regognise today:
Cavendish Hotel (late 1700’s), Browns Hotel (1877), Durrants Hotel (1790), Claridges
Hotel (1853), Great Northern Hotel (1854), Grosvenor Hotel (1861), Langham Hotel
(1865), Charing Cross Hotel (1865), Royal Horseguards Hotel (1884), Savoy Hotel
(1889), Cadogan Hotel (1895), Connaught Hotel (1897), Hotel Russell (1898) and
the Landmark Hotel (1899).
Today there are well over 1200 Hotels , Bed & breakfast establishments and guesthouses
in London. The late 20C has seen the massive growth in chain Hotels and budget
Hotels. Familiar names such as Premier Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Ibis, Travelodge,
Hilton, Radisson, Marriott and easy.hotel.com are all around us. Indeed, approximately
70% of all rooms in London Hotels are accounted for by the chain hotels. More
