more heavy rain forecast over the coming days, local insurance broker Towergate
Risk Solutions today provides some basic advice to help businesses and individuals
which are or may be affected by flooding. A
spokesperson for Towergate Risk Solutions said, “Flooding can have a major impact
on people’s lives so it is vital that every precaution and evasive action is taken
to mitigate the risk. So we have provided a few essential tasks to help both individuals
and businesses protect against flooding: Here
is Towergate Risk Solutions basic flood advice checklist of essential tasks: - Identify
a safe place where you, your family and/or your employees can keep away from the
floodwater
- Gather essential items together that include warm clothes,
blankets, regular medication, a torch, food supplies, a mobile phone and a battery-operated
or wind-up radio
- Turn off gas, electricity and water supplies at the
mains
- Move electrical items and valuables to a first floor or higher
position
- Floods can kill. NEVER attempt to walk or drive through any
depth of floodwater
- WAIT for the emergency services. Follow their instructions.
If an evacuation order is issued you MUST comply
- Call Floodline on 0845
988 1188 for the latest information and stay tuned to local radio
- Flood
water can rise quickly; stay calm and reassure those around you. Call 999 if you
are in danger
- Contact your insurer/insurance broker:
- If you
have your policy documentation to hand, look for an emergency/claims contact number
- If you cannot find your insurance documentation but you deal with a Towergate
office, contact your local office that deals with your insurance.
